Silk Worm’s Garden
Hand painted on Habotai Silk and hand Quilted
Part of a series based on Branwen, Celtic princess of Anglesey, featured in the Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh myths and legends.
I see her not only as a representative of the use and abuse of women in times long past, but as a potent symbol of the continued misuse of women around the world today.
Painted habotai silk, lettering, free-motion quilting etc.

Painted habotai silk hanging, built around a piece of handmade silk ‘paper’ and free-machine quilted and embellished with silk floss, and, of course, just one feather.
Painted habotai silk hanging, with tumbling, opening pink silk rectangles, free-machine quilted and embellished with silk floss, and, of course, just one feather.
Painted habotai silk hanging, with wind blown leaves and the suggestion of a cobweb, free-machine quilted and embellished with silk floss, and, of course, just one feather.
My response to hearing, via the news media, how much at cross-purposes are the actions of our various political and quasi-political bodies and how far we are from resolving most of the world’s problems and inequities. Everything in the quilt is at cross-purposes. Habotai silk. Various techniques used including painting, writing, couching, free-motion quilting and beading.
